2018 Midterm Elections Report

Summary Analysis

  • Largest Cohort of Freshman Veterans Elected Since 2010

    • At least 16 new veterans were elected to the House of Representatives, and another six are in races that are too close to call

    • 9 of the 16 are Iraq and Afghanistan veterans

  • 3 women veterans will join the House of Representatives

    • This is the largest such influx ever of women veterans

    • If McSally holds her lead in Arizona, a total of 7 women veterans will be serving in Congress next term (3 in the Senate and 4 in the House)

    • There are another two women vets in races that the AP hasn't called yet (AZ 1 and TX 23)

  • There will likely be at least 78 veterans in the House and 19 in the Senate next term (if current leads hold)

    • This will be a slight increase from the current number (77 and 18) but a slight decrease from the beginning of the current term (82 and 21)

Note: This analysis is current as of 12:00pm Nov 7th
